Project Overview

As part of the South Marston recreational ground development plan, a new 178 metre pathway was created to improve accessibility and encourage community use of the space. The project was generously funded by the F and E Harris Memorial Trust.

Scope of work:

  • Excavation and ground preparation. The route was carefully excavated to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding area while providing a stable foundation.
  • Timber edging Installation: Timber edging was constructed along the entire length to define the path and retain the surfacing.
  • Base construction: A Type 1 aggregrate base was laid and compacted providing durability and stability suitable for all-weather use.
  • Surface finish: The path was surfaced with 1-4mm limestone crush, offering a firm, natural-looking and permeable finish that blends well with the setting.

The path was designed to follow the natural flow and the undulations of the ground, maintaining the landscapes character while ensuring its accessibility for all users.

The pathway improves the connectivity across the site, we further installed benches which created a welcoming inclusive community space supporting health and wellbeing.
